For my latest wine pick, I decided to go off script with Offscript “Interieur” Carbonic Zinfandel from Sonoma California.
As a musician, author, and artist, this wine immediately spoke to me, with the artistic label, and back label depiction of an “art studio for talented wine makers”… denoting a “celebration of creativity, experimentation, and the freedom to throw away the script in pursuit of visionary wines”.
The Offscript wine “studio” is led by Gina Gallo, the granddaughter of legendary winemaker Julio Gallo, located in Dry Creek Valley, in Sonoma, CA. The “Interieur” carbonic zinfandel is made by winemaker Molly Felts.
This fun and artist-inspired wine tastes like… candy. I get grape Jolly Rancher, grape ring pop (probably the same stuff), berry fruit roll up, with plenty of fresh plum and some nice tartness on the back of the tongue. The mouthfeel is nice and lively, without any of the “almost-imperceptibly-fizzy” that we sometimes get with fully carbonic macerated wines.
It’s fun, it’s playful, and I’m about to have another glass while I play my guitar :)
In a city of creatives like Los Angeles, combined with the trend that “natural wines” is, this is a can’t miss wine for your next party or artist session.
