This was a gift for my gluten-free son and it worked out better than I could have imagined. He’s always saying that the thing he misses most after having to go gluten free is BEER. He’s tried several alternatives and this is the ONLY one he likes (really likes!). I tried one myself and was quite impressed. It smells & tastes like regular beer!! I love that my son can enjoy a beer with dinner and he’s not missing out on anything!! Thanks Soonish 💜
I know, it may seem a little expensive for cocktails, but we’ve tried several at a higher price and this one wins hands down. Makes a delicious cocktail, as it has subtle notes of chocolate to bring depth to anything you can mix up.
I got this when it was on sale for $15, and at that price I’ll buy just about any decent looking rum. I’ve never tried the standard Bacardi 8 year, so I have nothing to compare this to, but this rum is decidedly mediocre. Nothing pops flavor-wise, and whatever age it has doesn’t register for me at all. This tastes exactly like what the price point suggests it is: a mixing rum only.
If you like spirit forward, anise flavor liqueur, give this one a try.
Sharper and more astringent than Enrico Toro Torella (which I hope this store will carry soon).
Genepy's alcohol-forward profile will hit your sinus with an astringent punch.
85% alcohol forward
15% sweet
Nose is 85% alcohol
15% Anise
Taste is:
99% Anise
1% Fennel
In summary, the overall taste is 85% bitter Anise, with maybe 15% sweet fennel.
As a Green Chartreuse substitute, use Genepy in mixed beverages for customers who prefer a dryer cocktail. It definitely does not add any sweetness.
I did a video about it here
