Glenmorangie’s new A Tale of Ice Cream limited edition single malt is a whisky that lives up to its namesake in every sense. From the initial aromas to the flavorful finish, this single malt is loaded with vanilla cream, heavy oak sugars, lemon and peach sorbet, and coconut clusters covered in toffee.

You can taste every one of those decadent descriptors with just a standard Glencairn glass a drop of water. There’s nothing esoteric or contrived about A Tale of Ice Cream, which immediately separates it from some of the hokier, more gimmick-based whiskies on the market today.

“Ice cream is an irresistible indulgence and inspired by the flavors you might find on an ice-cream parlor menu, we imagined creating a whisky of melting decadence and lavish swirls of flavor,” Dr. Lumsden wrote upon the whisky’s release.

So how did he do it? By aging Glenmorangie in extra high-vanillin casks, the team was able to intensify both the creaminess and the sweetness of the standard Glenmorangie. There are no Sherry butts, sweet wine finishes, or experimental casks here, which is what makes this release so refreshing. It’s just good, old fashioned Glenmorangie that happens to be extra flavorful and extra sweet.
