Just because the calendar says September doesn’t mean we’re giving up summer yet! Our team picked three incredible wines to keep things fresh, vibrant, and perfectly suited for backyard hangs and lingering warm nights.
Champalou Vouvray 2024 750ml
Evan - Woodland Hills Wine Specialist
As most of the country starts to transition to fall, we all know Southern California has much more summer temps in store for us. So, let's keep the crisp white-wine train rolling with another banger. Champalou Vouvray Secis a 100% Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, France. This Sec (dry) white wine is my favorite and most approachable of the Domaine's six Chenin Blanc wines they produce.
Incredibly aromatic nose of freshly cut flowers and honeyed pome fruit. On the palate, your tongue gets enveloped with said pome fruit and a stony minerality on a light-to-medium body. That first sip will instantly transport you to the rolling chalky limestone hills of the French countryside. Sustainable farming, natural fermentation, and minimal intervention all attribute to showcasing a time and a place–a place you know you want to be.

Chateau Larose-Trintaudon Haut-Medoc 2018 750ml
Mark - Pasadena Wine Specialist
An affordable Bordeaux from the exceptional 2018 vintage, revisited! When we brought in the Chateau Larose-Trintaudon Haut-Medoc last year, we agreed that it was drinking great then and would only improve with age–and WOW is all we can say now!
This classic Cabernet/Merlot blend from the Left Bank of Bordeaux is overflowing with currant and blackberry flavors and a bit of earthiness, giving way to a very long finish of well-balanced tannins. We chose to pair it with grilled filet mignon topped with melted bleu cheese, and the wine really came alive against that backdrop. Stock up while supplies last, which shouldn't be long!

Exit West Sauvignon Blanc Block V 2023 750ml
Jeff - North Glendale Wine Specialist
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world's top white wine varietals, with many popular regions and signature flavor profiles all over the world. While California winemaking has evolved into well-known regions and microclimates popularly thought of as ideal for different varietals, Lake County remains relatively obscure to mainstream popularity.
I got turned onto Lake County Sauv Blancs a long time ago and have an admitted bias for them. When I started here, I immediately noticed Exit West, specifically because it was from Lake County. When I bought a bottle to try, I was once again validated in my love of Sauv Blanc from that region. I began suggesting it to customers and coworkers alike and began creating a bit of a cult-following here in our store.
For me, the wine is somewhat of a cross between French Sancerre and Bordeaux, and yet uniquely Californian. It is certainly mineral-forward, reminiscent of Sancerre, yet a bit softer and rounder, like a Bordeaux blanc. I get stone fruit, like apricot, and gooseberry, especially on the finish. There is plenty of citrus acidity, yet the edges are very round, unlike some Sauv Blancs that can be acid monsters. It is also a weighty and substantial wine, due in part to its 14.3% ABV, putting it in the minority of Sauv Blancs in the mid-14% range.
I recommend this wine to everyone looking for a Sauvignon Blanc, whether for a meal or special occasion, and it has quietly become the #1 Sauv Blanc in our store and one of our top three white wines overall. Come see what everyone is loving about this wine!
